Portland Car Dealer: Big Toyota News Kicks off 2012
Toyota releases teaser video a week before the Detroit Auto Show
While the video doesn’t reveal much about the concept cars due to debut next week in Detroit, we cannot deny that this video from Toyota has style and class. According to those who’ve seen the vehicles in question, they’re just as exciting as the video implies.
Toyota Auto Show Exhibit Focuses on Future of Transportation Toyota plans to have 30 models on display in Detroit next week, in a 30,000 square foot exhibit area focused on the future of technology as it relates to automobiles. From iPads replacing window stickers to a fuel cell concept car to a Safety Simulator wherein users can test Toyota’s Star Safety System, Toyota plans to take automotive technology to the next level with the world watching.
Toyota Aygo facelift revealed The Detroit Auto Show may get a lot of attention, but the Brussels Motor Show—also scheduled for later this month—is shaping up to be just as big for Toyota. Increased fuel efficiency and decreased emissions mean the vehicle, priced at just under £9,000, is a true competitor in the UK market.

Portland Toyota Dealer: The 2013 Scion FR-S Rolls out this Spring
Good news, sports car fans: Subaru and Toyota have teamed up to bring an affordable, six-speed, rear-wheel drive coupe to life. The 2013 Scion FR-S boasts 200 horsepower, better fuel economy than its competition, and Recaro-style seats. Early reports unanimously indicate the FR-S handles like a dream and is likely to be a booming success once it hits the American market in spring 2012.
Unlike many of its counterparts, the FR-S will be light (under 3,000 pounds), with 17-inch tires and an amazingly low center of gravity (lower than the Porsche Cayman!).
With a trunk large enough to fit two golf bags (with the rear seats folded down), a Pioneer sound system, Torsen-Limited slip differential, and a price tag under $26,000 the FR-S is a sports car for the budget-minded enthusiast.

Portland Toyota Dealer: Toyota 86 Ignites the Crowd at Fuji Speedway
When Toyota debuted its FT-86 concept in 2009, the model generated lots of excitement among auto enthusiasts. It had been awhile since the auto manufacturer released a compelling sports coupe with racing capabilities
. Developed over the last decade largely by Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda, the vehicle finally made its debut and fell into the hands of Motor Trend at Fuji Speedway.
Dropping the concept name and going simply with “Toyota 86,” the model received a loud ovation from the crowd of over 20,000 people who gathered for a glimpse of the new model at Fuji Speedway, 60 miles south of Tokyo. While the design and product development was provided by Toyota, the 86 is a collaborative effort between Toyota and Subaru. Subaru was called in to provide the chassis, engine, brakes, transmission and suspension.
The result is a surprisingly well-rounded vehicle given its class. Featuring a 2.0-liter Subaru boxer engine with Toyota’s DS4 direct injection technology, the two technologies result in a significant increase in fuel economy from a standard engine. The model achieves an impressive 200 hp at 7000 rpm and 151 lb-ft of torque, easily exceeding the Mazda MX-5 – the model’s closest Japanese competitor.
Motor Trend was able to get their hands on the model for 3 test laps and was more than impressed with its capabilities on the track. While the back seat is best suited for individuals 5’7″ and under, the driver’s seat provides plenty of room, perfectly set peddles and surprising visibility for the sporty vehicle. The driving experience on the pavement was called firm but not harsh, with accurate and tight handling around the corners. The full package was said to be a “true driver’s car”.
We’re excited about the development of this model and look forward to more news about the American-market release. Stay tuned right here on our blog and Facebook page for more on all of the latest Toyota models and news!

Portland Toyota Dealer: 2012 Toyota Models to See Improved User Experience
Over the last several months, we’ve previewed several of the exciting model upgrades that are on the way in the 2012 Toyota lineup. Recently, Car and Driver
provided the full scoop of the exciting new changes we will be seeing on Toyota models large and small:
Cars
In terms of sedans, the most notable model changes involve the Camry, Yaris, and new family of Prii. All three models have topped the sales charts over the last few years with tremendous all-around values in the areas of style, fuel economy, and innovative technology features. For 2012, the Camry will include a less-bulky build and refined interior features while the Yaris will feature a new angular exterior design and upgraded dash.
Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of the new year for Toyota is the new family of Prii, which has drawn heavy speculation of an entirely separate brand for the best-selling hybrid. Along with minor design tweaks for the standard Prius, the larger and more spacious Prius V will make its debut. The V will essentially provide a Prius model that is fit for the whole family without compromising fuel economy.
Trucks and SUVs
For larger vehicles, Toyota is making upgrades to the Tacoma, 4Runner, and Land Cruiser. The award-winning Tacoma will receive a nice visual upgrade with a new hood, grille, headlamps, bumpers, and trim modifications for a more modern exterior feel. The 4Runner will receive minor tweaks with added options of Entune (Toyota’s mobile app and web interface) and power running boards, while the Land Cruiser will receive the same exterior upgrades as the Tacoma. The Land Cruiser interior will also receive a slew of innovative interior features, with a surround-view system, terrain selection, and off-road “Turn Assist” to round out its luxury atmosphere.
